Trail Running Gear List:
Shoes:
Pearl Izumi EM Trail N2
Notes: Go to shoe for any distance from 10k to Ultra distances. This shoe has a low 4mm drop, which seems to the ideal drop for me.
Pros: Uppers don't blow out, cheers to the EM technology, comfortable, grippy on dry, technical terrain and has great shoelaces.
Cons: Traction is compromised on wet terrain, even more so than other shoes I have tried.
Pearl Izumi EM Trail N1
Notes: Go to shoe for any distance from 10k to Ultra distances. Have had had some IT band issues while in this shoe, which could be the result of a lower (1mm) drop.
Pros: Uppers don't blow out, cheers to the EM technology, comfortable,
grippy on dry, technical terrain and has great shoelaces.
Cons: Traction is compromised on wet terrain, even more so than other shoes I have tried.
Altra Lone Peak 2.0
Notes: Go to shoe for short, technical, "mud fest" runs. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SHOE FOR THE BEGINNER RUNNER! This is a zero drop shoe and without a proper transition can lead to injury.
Pros: Super comfy, love the wide toe box, super grippy in all conditions, and built in gator keeper.
Cons: Shoelaces are too long.
